Minister Radulović and Ambassador Shebshub: Montenegro and Algeria devoted to closer bilateral cooperation
Minister of Foreign Affairs Đorđe Radulović met today with non-resident ambassador of People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria in Montenegro, residing in Belgrade, Abdelhamid Shebshub.
Head of Montenegrin diplomacy expressed the gratitude to Ambassador on commitment to initiatives and realization of commonly important projects, with hope that two countries will develop overall bilateral relations more extensively in the future, with focus on defining legal framework and realization of official visits.
Minister Radulović stated that establishing of closer cooperation with states of African continent can be treated as the important segment of Montenegrin foreign policy. He reiterated strong commitment to promotion of regional cooperation and dialogue under Union for Mediterranean, that, as he stated, represents priority cooperation platform, thus contributes to the sustainable energy transition and strengthening unused potential of economic integration in the region. He also highlighted the importance of intensifying contacts, primarily through establishing of communication between commerce chambers of two states.
Ambassador Shebshub stated that Montenegro and Algeria cherish excellent political relations, by emphasizing their “geographic closeness and belonging to the same Mediterranean region”. While speaking of cooperation possibilities, he particularly underlined establishment of more intensify tourism exchange, through more directed promotion and ties between national touristic organizations. In that context, Minister Radulović confirmed that Algeria represents important tourism potential for our country, while stressing that Montenegro has intention to position itself as secure tourism destination, devoted to implementation of necessary measures aimed at decrease of negative consequences of COVID-19 pandemic.
In the framework of current circumstances caused by corona virus, Minister Radulović stated that Montenegro extremely appreciates firm efforts that Government of Algeria invest in order to prevent spreading of the virus, thus that ongoing vaccination in both countries is encouraging process for all Mediterranean region. In that regard, he highlighted that pandemic consequences on social and economic plan invite for intensification of international cooperation and multilateralism based on solidarity, humanity and mutual understanding.
Collocutors expressed the pleasure with successful realization of Algerian initiative on connecting Municipality of Berane with some city in that state. On that line, they reminded that in the previous conversation Ambassador Shebshub had with President of this Montenegrin Municipality, also talked about raising a monument to Stevan Labudović, born in Berane, who perpetuated historical moments in Algeria with photos, during the Independence War.
They also emphasized that two countries are characterized by excellent multilateral cooperation, particularly in contexts of appropriation of candidatures for membership in UN bodies.
