Minister Radulović at the Ministerial Meeting on the Humanitarian Situation in Afghanistan
“In this critical moment, hopes and expectations of Afghan people are directed towards the world. We are all obliged to support them in their aspirations towards democracy, rule of law, human rights and socio-economic developments”, stated Foreign Affairs Minister Đorđe Radulović over a live video link at the High-level Ministerial Meeting on the Humanitarian Situation in Afghanistan, which is held today in Geneva. The meeting at which the Head of Montenegrin Diplomacy was invited to speak by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, was an opportunity to point out at extremely difficult humanitarian situation in this country.
Drastic deterioration of the overall situation in Afghanistan, firstly in terms of humanitarian conditions, dictates the need for close cooperation at multilateral level and active engagement of the international community which must act in unison, in order to successfully respond to a crisis which will, undoubtedly, have a deep and long-term effect on the future of this country and its population, said Minister Radulović in his address.
it was also pointed out at acute humanitarian needs and a goal which implies mobilizing of support for consolidated Fast humanitarian appeal and a Humanitarian response plan. In that context, Minister Radulović added that every future Afghan Government must respect international law and sent appeal for complete protection of human rights and freedoms of all Afghans, especially women, children and minorities.
Afghan people deserve to live with dignity in a secure environment, he said, stating that all future Afghan Governments must secure stability of the country and, to its citizens, the right to live with dignity.
The head of Montenegrin Diplomacy reminded that our country, together with its partners, continually provided support with a goal to develop long-term security and stability, while contributing to peace and democratic development of Afghanistan and participating in NATO ISAF and “Resolute support” missions.
Concluding that we are, as a reliable partner and a country that cares about wellbeing of people around the world, still committed to progress and achieving common goal – a stable and secure Afghanistan, he confirmed that Montenegro will also give a financial contribution for mitigation of the current humanitarian crisis.
