Minister Radulović at the opening of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Debate

76th Session of the United Nations General Debate began today in New York, our country is represented by the Head of Montenegrin Diplomacy Đorđe Radulović at this event that gathers heads of states and foreign affairs ministers at the highest level.

 

The topic is “Building Resilience through hope to recover from COVID-19, rebuild sustainably, respond to the needs of the planet, respect human rights, and revitalize the United Nations”, and the focus will be on the consequences of the pandemic, strengthening multilateralism and strengthening the United Nations, which are in the center of international cooperation and global response.

“Everybody, without exception, must act locally in order to globally recover our planet from COVID consequences. Multilateralism, international cooperation and solidarity must be raised to a higher level. In that sense all countries that participate at the General Assembly must be what the UN represent, that is what our citizens expect”, said Minister Radulović in New York.

One of the most significant events which is being organized under the cover of the UN represents an opportunity for confirmation of Montenegrin dedication to the principles and goals of the UN, peace and security, human rights respect and achieving sustainable position and visibility of our country in the UN and the promotion of bilateral relations with other participant countries.

Minister Radulović began his visit to New York yesterday, by laying flowers and honoring the victims of September 11th terrorist attacks which happened twenty years ago. Commemorative meeting on the occasion of marking this anniversary was organized by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism and the 9/11 Memorial Center. Pointing out that one of the topics of the General debate of UN GA is countering terrorism, Minister Radulović stated that Montenegro’s attendance is “another confirmation that we undoubtedly share the goals of the UN and work together with our neighbors, partners and friends on recovery, for the future of our countries, citizens and our children”.

The Head of Montenegrin Diplomacy will have several bilateral and multilateral meetings which will be organized at the margins of the Assembly.
