Ministers of Foreign Affairs Radulović and Aurescu: Support on European path of Montenegro

“Romania is proved and true friend that support foreign policy of Montenegro in all its aspects”, Head of Montenegrin diplomacy Đorđe Radulović stated, while expressing the gratitude to Romanian colleague Bogdan Aurescu for continued political and expert support of that country to our EU path, as well as clear support to the enlargement policy of EU for Western Balkans.

On that line, Minister Radulović expressed the hope during the online talk, that political dialogue and communication on that level will be additionally intensified in the forthcoming period.

Minister Aurescu expressed the satisfaction with friendly relations of two states, while emphasizing that Montenegro, as the most serious candidate for membership in EU, can count on support of his country. He also stated that Romania, as firm and reliable ally within NATO, was devoted to our goal to become part of the Alliance, thus that success on that path had also contribute to greater stability and security of the Region.

Ministers Radulović and Aurescu talked also about participation in regional initiatives, while putting focus on candidatures within the Regional Cooperation Council for the period 2022-2024, in light of the contribution to the implementation of European standards and best practices under that body, as well as achieving of foreign policy aims of the Region. Likewise, they underlined the importance of cooperation of two countries in the framework of political and project dimension of Central European Initiative.

In the context of strengthening of economic relations, they emphasized that there is significant potential for their further improvement, particularly through increasing number of investments from Romania, thus cooperation in the tourism field.

While talking about bilateral cooperation, Minister Radulović especially appraised bilateral communication in the area of defense, internal affairs and justice, that is, as he stated, being realized among ministries and institutions in charge, and within regional and international mechanisms. He welcomed recent opening of the Consulate of the Montenegro in Craiova, with Honorary Consul Jon Deaconescu, with estimation that overall cooperation will be improved through his engagement.

Speaking about pandemic COVID-19, he expressed special gratitude for support of Romanian Government for providing valuable medicine protection equipment under Mechanism for Civil Protection of EU, while emphasizing that this act another example of solidarity of EZ member states for the Western Balkans’ countries. 

In the light of extraordinary relations between Montenegro and Romania, Head of Montenegrin diplomacy invited Minister Aurescu to officialy visit Montenegro in the period ahead.
