Montenegro opens Consulate in Edirne, headed by honorary consul

The Consulate of Montenegro in Edirne, Republic of Türkiye, headed by honorary consul Naser Alim, was officially inaugurated today. The consulate will have jurisdiction over the provinces of Edirne, Tekirdağ, Kırklareli, and Çanakkale.

The official opening ceremony was attended by the Acting Director General of the Directorate for Consular Affairs and Cooperation with the Diaspora, Ivana Đukanović, who highlighted the deep historical and friendly ties between Montenegro and Türkiye. She recalled that last year marked 145 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which are further strengthened today through NATO alliance, dynamic political dialogue, and fruitful economic and cultural cooperation.

Đukanović expressed her expectation that the Consulate in Edirne will serve as an important link for further enhancing relations between Montenegro and Türkiye, particularly in the fields of economy, culture, and tourism. She also emphasized its crucial role in providing consular protection and support to Montenegrin citizens residing or traveling in the region.

Honorary consul Naser Alim expressed his satisfaction in assuming this important role, stating that the Consulate will actively promote Montenegro, strengthen economic and cultural ties, organize joint events, and showcase Montenegro’s tourism potential.

The inauguration was attended by high-ranking representatives of Turkish institutions, local authorities, as well as prominent members of the business and social communities. Following the ceremony, a presentation on Montenegro’s investment potential was held, with participation from representatives of the Investment Agency and the Chamber of Commerce of Montenegro.

It was concluded that there is significant potential for further economic cooperation between Montenegro and Türkiye. The opening of the Consulate, led by honorary consul Naser Alim—an esteemed businessman and former president of the Montenegro-Türkiye Business Council at the Turkish Foreign Economic Relations Board—will contribute to stronger business ties, the promotion of investments, and the development of economic opportunities between the two countries.
