Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapić met today with the newly appointed, non-resident Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Montenegro, H. E. Demetrios A. Theophylactou.

Prime Minister Krivokapić expressed satisfaction that he has the opportunity to meet with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Theophylactou a month after assuming that position, which gives hope that friendly relations between the two small, similar Mediterranean countries will be strengthened and deepened.

The Prime Minister thanked the Ambassador for the support provided by Cyprus to Montenegro on its path to European integration so far, emphasising that there are all the necessary conditions for intensifying political dialogue between the two countries at the highest diplomatic level, as well as for the further development of economic relations in all areas.

Our economic cooperation so far is surprisingly modest. We need to show more effort in the future. Montenegro wants to unreservedly adapt its economy to the environment, Krivokapić said.

The Ambassador of Cyprus expressed satisfaction that he has started a diplomatic mission in a country whose citizens cherish similar values, and that he aims to improve the partnership relations between the two friendly countries.

I look forward to working with you and your Government to promote good existing relations. Certainly, we have room to intensify cooperation in the field of tourism, but also to invest in other, economically viable projects, said Ambassador Theophylactou.

The Ambassador of Cyprus said that the Republic of Cyprus will undoubtedly continue to provide expert and diplomatic support to Montenegro during the accession negotiations, adding that he hopes that Montenegro will become the next EU member in the near future.
