PM Krivokapić speaks with municipal presidents about country's complex epidemiological situation

Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapić held an online meeting today with mayors and presidents of Montenegrin municipalities.

PM Krivokapić stressed that the way the meeting was organised says enough about how serious the situation is. The Prime Minister asked mayors and presidents of municipalities to do everything in their local areas regarding control over the implementation of COVID-19 protection measures.

"In order to prevent the bad situation in Montenegro from getting worse," Krivokapić said.

The Prime Minister stresses that the ten-day action on prevention, protection and strict implementation of the prescribed measures, expected from representatives of the authorities and their services at the local level, can be decisive so that the Government does not come to a situation where it has to order a total lockdown.

"We assessed that it is necessary to give Montenegro a chance to implement the measures properly, to appeal to the population, and we will see how the situation develops over the next ten days. The trend of growth in the number of sick and deceased people must be stopped and must be on a downward trajectory, both because of the biological survival of Montenegrin citizens and because of the necessary economic recovery," said the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister reminded of the losses Montenegro's economy suffered from last year's restrictive measures that paralysed the previous tourist season and impoverished the state budget by about EUR 600,000,000.

PM Krivokapić said that he sees a "light at the end of the tunnel" in the rapid mass vaccination of the population that has already started.

"Today's delivery from the People's Republic of China of 30,000 doses of Synopharm vaccines and the expected shipments are a good prerequisite for exiting the crisis situation," Krivokapić said.
