Press release from the 20th Cabinet session
During the 20th session chaired by Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, the Montenegrin Cabinet, driven by the necessity to safeguard national security and continue the relentless fight against crime and corruption, and with the aim of accelerating Montenegro's path towards the European Union, discussed candidates who applied for the position of Acting Director of the Police Directorate through a public call.
The Cabinet was briefed on the list, biographies, and interview process of the candidates who applied for the position of Acting Director of the Police Directorate through the public call.
In accordance with the Conclusion of the Government of Montenegro no. 08-011/24-1185/2 dated 3 March 2024, the Minister of the Interior proposed Lazar Šćepanović for the position of Acting Director of the Police Directorate. However, the proposed candidate did not receive the necessary majority of votes from the Cabinet members.
As the Minister of the Interior declined to propose another candidate from the list of applicants in accordance with the law, the Cabinet, to preserve national security and ensure the Police Directorate has a director or acting director, authorized Prime Minister Milojko Spajić to propose one of the candidates from the established list. In line with this decision, the Prime Minister proposed Aleksandar Radović for the position of Acting Director of the Police Directorate.
In justifying the proposal, the Prime Minister highlighted Mr. Radović's extensive work experience, noting his crucial contribution at the end of last year in helping Montenegro avoid being placed on the Moneyval grey list. In addition to the aforementioned, Aleksandar Radović's six-year tenure at EUROPOL is a testament to his expertise.
The Cabinet adopted the proposal of the Prime Minister and appointed Aleksandar Radović as the Acting Director of the Police Directorate by a majority vote.
