Radulović and Sanino: EEAS appreciates orientation and strategic positions of Montenegro
“Positive messages from the meeting of ministers of foreign affairs of EU member states are showing that Western Balkan has geo-strategical importance for Union”, Head of Montenegrin diplomacy Đorđe Radulović stated during the talk with Secretary General of the European External Action Service (EEAS) Stefano Saninno.
Minister Radulović appraised that we see conclusion of the EU ministers as another confirmation of commitment to our EU path, bearing in mind that it proposes need for acceleration of European integration process for Montenegro. This position of Union, as he stated, is in full accordance with our leading principles, particularly in the part of accepting new negotiation methodology, that we see as motivation for accelerating process and intensifying political dialogue.
Head of Montenegrin diplomacy added that EU is geopolitical orientation of our country, confirmed by encouraging result of new pools, according to which 80% of citizens support membership in Union. That is, as he stated, another reason for accelerating process that will lead us towards this goal, especially in context of rule of law and fight against corruption.
Secretary General Sanino emphasized that EU clearly notices commitment of Montenegro to follow Union’s vision and its foreign policy. “We appreciate pro-European orientation of your citizens that highly support membership in European family, thus we are happy that Montenegro shares our strategic positions”, he added. On that line, collocutors expressed expectation that Intergovernmental Conference with our country during current Portuguese presidency over EU Council.
Minister Radulović appraised that, bearing in mind that Montenegro strongly supports European agenda of its neighbors, conclusions of the debate of ministers of foreign affairs of EU member states are very encouraging. He stressed that regional cooperation is one of the priorities of our foreign policy, so that communication within regional initiatives accelerate economic and overall progress, that will contribute to the membership in EU, as idea that Western Balkans’ countries share.
While talking about “Conference for Future of Europe” that has been symbolically opened on its day – May 9th, collocutors agreed that it will contribute to understanding of EU, as union of common democratic values, thus that, precisely as French President Macron stated, Europe will again reveal path of “great projects, great ambitions and great dreams”. On that line, Minister Radulović stressed that “future is happening now” and that Montenegro, strongly believing in own European orientation, welcomes this project that will contribute to the EU in the forthcoming time.
