Radulović – Pezzuto: Montenegro and Vatican develop constructive political dialogue and friendly relations
„We are extremely pleased with the fact that cooperation between Montenegro and Holy Seat is constructive, that is being confirmed with intensive political dialogue, friendly relations and readiness for further improvement of collaboration”, Minister of Foreign Affairs Đorđe Radulović stated at the meeting with archbishop of Roman Catholic Church, apostolic nuncio in Montenegro, residing in Sarajevo, monsignor Luigi Pezzuto.
Head of Montenegrin diplomacy highlighted that visit of State Secretary Cardinal Pietro Parolin to Montenegro in June 2018 was very important, as additional impulse to the overall dialogue. Minister Radulović also stressed that significance of good and qualitative relations with Holy See is reflected in fact that Montenegro is first Balkan's, and after Russia, second country with mostly Orthodox society, that concluded Fundamental Agreement with this state. “That is clear indicator of relations towards our citizens of Catholic confession, that represent important asset to the rich cultural heritage of Montenegro”, he added.
In the context of concretization of the activities oriented to cooperation dynamization, Minister Radulović highlighted the importance of Joint Commission work, as well as that, in that line, level of co-presiding over this body should be raised on rang of Minister of Foreign Affairs respectively on State Secretary in Vatican case. As he stated “that will be strong message that we are ready to additionally emphasize importance of political dialogue and institutional cooperation with Holy See”.
Head of Montenegrin diplomacy also stated significance of residential representing of Holy See in Montenegro and expressed eagerness for providing necessary help for opening the Apostolic Nunciature in Podgorica, aiming at further empowering of ties.
Nuncio Pezzuto expressed the gratitude to the Minister while apprising that two countries develop excellent cooperation with great potential for its further intensification. When it comes to representation of Holy See in Montenegro, nuncio proposed opening diplomatic office of this country in Montenegro, for now, that will be under jurisdiction of nuncio in Sarajevo. Thus, the space for stronger presentation of Vatican’s interest will be improved, as well as for deepening relations. He agreed with collocutor about importance of Joint Commission work in the forthcoming period.
As nuncio Pezzuto highlighted, Holy See strongly appreciate readiness and openness of Montenegrin side for expanding and enhancing cooperation and communication, as precondition for realization of concrete activities.
Collocutors also welcomed establishing cooperation with Vatican archive in terms of access, collecting, classification, and later examination of database regarding our country.
