Seismic activity warning on Santorini
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issues a warning regarding increased seismic activity in the Santorini region, where approximately 500 tremors have been recorded, half of which occurred within the last 48 hours, with magnitudes exceeding 4 on the Richter scale. Experts warn that a potential stronger earthquake could exceed 6 on the Richter scale, prompting Greece to be placed on alert.
Given the volcanic nature of the island, the seismic vibrations are of volcanic origin, and in the event of an eruption, there is a risk of a tsunami.
The Ministry for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection has appealed to citizens to adhere to the recommended measures available at the provided link.
According to information from the Embassy of Montenegro in Athens, there are currently no Montenegrin citizens on Santorini, nor have any requests for assistance been recorded. For further information, citizens may contact the Embassy's duty number: +30 210 724 12 12.
