Spajić meets with Scholz in Berlin on 29 April
Montenegro will have full support from Germany in the reforms that will accelerate its European path, it was highlighted during the meeting between Prime Minister Milojko Spajić and the German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.
Confirmation also comes in the form of Prime Minister Spajić's visit to Berlin, during which he will meet with Chancellor Olaf Scholz on 29 April.
During the discussions between Spajić and Baerbock, the importance of German assistance in reforms was emphasised, especially in strengthening the institutions of the security sector. The necessity of zero tolerance for corruption was emphasised to restore the trust of citizens and credible investors in the system's institutions.
Anti-corruption is probably crucial for strengthening institutions, which make the system successful regardless of who is in power. If the state's leadership stands for something, there is a great chance of success. Therefore, it is very important to emphasise zero tolerance for corruption in public campaigns, which will also affect your image with foreign investors, Minister Baerbock emphasised, praising the results at the start of the Government's mandate.
Prime Minister Spajić emphasised that work on chapters 23 and 24 is currently in focus, but strengthening the rule of law is the most important thing this year, as it will also affect economic growth.
Strengthening the rule of law is not only reflected in the adoption of legislation. Deep reforms of institutions are needed for substantial progress, and that is what we aim for. We want to professionalize the managerial structures in institutions, and through public calls, we make the whole process transparent, said the Prime Minister.
The meeting also addressed the current political situation, noting Montenegro’s full alignment with the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy.
The possibility of cooperation in the energy sector was highlighted, with a special focus on green transition, which will be of great importance for meeting the benchmarks within Chapter 27, dedicated to the environment and climate change.
Confirmation of the great interest of German investors in investments is also the recent visit of the delegation of the German Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations.
