Montenegro will host the Summit of leaders of the Western Balkans and the European Union on May 16th in Kotor
LATEST INFORMATION: The video material from the panel "State of Play and Future Plans – New Growth Plan" within the Summit of Western Balkans and EU Leaders will be available in all languages translated on site on the YouTube channel of the Government of Montenegro.
The summit of leaders of the Western Balkans and the European Union will be held on Thursday, May 16th in Kotor (Hyatt Blue Bay Hotel), during which the leaders of the countries of the region, representatives of the European Union and the United States of America will discuss the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans.
The summit will be hosted by the Prime Minister of Montenegro Milojko Spajić.
Media representatives can record the doorstep statements of all participants of the meeting which are planned at 9:15 a.m., as well as the press conference of Prime Minister Milojko Spajić and Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi, which is planned for 10:30 a.m. The press conference which will be streamed live on YouTube channel of the Government of Montenegro will be available on the following link: https://youtube.com/live/qXNXv3D1oeo?feature=share.
The meeting of regional leaders, which will be attended by the European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi and the US Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia James O'Brien is planned for 9:30 am. The summit is organized under the slogan "One region, common vision".
In addition to leaders and ministers from the countries of the region, partner organizations such as the Council for Regional Cooperation, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the European Investment Bank, the World Bank, the Transport Community, the Atlantic Alliance, the Energy Community, the Foundation for Open Society, ReSPA, GIZ, high representatives of the European Commission and others.
The day before the Summit, on May 15th, a meeting of ministers of the European Affairs and Finance of the Western Balkan countries, representatives of the European Commission and partner organizations will be held.
We remind you that during the previous months, ministerial meetings and regional summits of Western Balkan leaders were held in Skopje and Tirana. At these meetings, the leaders and ministers of the countries of the region and representatives of the European Union and the United States of America discussed the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans, which includes six billion euros in grants and loans to accelerate socioeconomic convergence with the European Union, i.e. two billion in grants and four billion in favorable loans guaranteed by the EU.
