WHO Regional Director for Europe to pay official visit to Montenegro

Regional Director of the World Health Organization for Europe, Dr. Hans H. Kluge will pay his first official visit to Montenegro on 6 and 7 May 2021.

The visit is an opportunity for political and expert dialogue, not only on responding to COVID as a monumental health, social and economic challenge, but also on the need to redefine sectoral policy priorities, better positioning health in political and development agenda, as strong determinants of economic development and social cohesion.

During his stay in Montenegro, Dr. Kluge will meet with Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapić and President of the Parliament of Montenegro Aleksa Bečić. Dr. Kluge will begin his visit will begin with a meeting with Minister of Health Jelena Borovinić Bojović and representatives of the Ministry of Health, including the heads of the Institute of Public Health and the Clinical Centre of Montenegro.

Topics of the meeting will be the response to COVID 19, WHO Work Programme for Europe, as a basis for developing a new health policy in Montenegro, investing in health security and defining a framework for cooperation to establish an Emergency Operations Center (EOC), improving financial risk protection when using health services, strengthening primary health care as the backbone of universal health care.

After the meeting with the Minister of Health, on Thursday, May 6, Minister Borovinić Bojović and Dr. Kluge will give statement to the media, which will be recorded by the team of the Government Public Relations Service.

We invite interested media representative to send questions to the Minister of Health and the WHO Regional Director for Europe by Monday, 3 May, at 17:00. Dr. Kluge will respond to all questions concerning the policy and specific activities of the WHO, with special reference to our country, and present the WHO views.
