Montenegro police advance fight against organised crime
Podgorica, Montenegro (21 September 2011)
Fight against organised crime is one of the seven key priorities set out in European Commission’s Opinion on Montenegro’s EU membership application and therefore the aim of this project is to upgrade Montenegro’s police capacities in addressing this challenge, Leopold Maurer, head of the EU Delegation to Montenegro, told the press conference marking the end of the Twinning project “Intelligence-Led Policing”.
The project, done in the collaboration with the Austrian police, provided opportunity for Montenegrin police officers, analysts and operatives to learn from the best Austrian practices, attend specialised trainings and acquaint themselves with the statistic monitoring and crime reporting methods, as well as trend monitoring and making estimates of possible criminal activities.
Deputy Prime Minister Duško Marković pointed to the future benefits of the project, both at operational and strategic level: strengthening capacities of the first line of defence against organised crime and making crime threats estimates in Montenegro, which along with the recently prepared Map of Organised Crime rounds off a set of strategic documents adopted in line with the EU standards.
The projects is funded by the EU under the Instruments for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA), in the amount of EUR 240,000, with Montenegro contributing EUR 50,000
