Podgorica, Montenegro (24 July 2012) -- Montenegro will intensify its communication with the Europol on two tracks: during the preparation of the EU body’s report for the European Commission’s action plan for combating organised crime and corruption, and with the aim of signing an operative cooperation agreement which is to advance exchange of information in fighting against crime.
This was announced at yesterday’s meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice and Human Rights Duško Marković and Europol's Director Rob Wainright, which took place on the sidelines of the informal meeting of EU justice and internal affairs ministers in Nicosia, within Cyprus presidency of the EU.
The Europol Director said that Montenegro has a good structure for combating crime, and that the country is not an exception as to making a risk assessment of the organised crime and corruption. He underlined that the Europol’s report on Montenegro will be made professionally and objectively.
The meeting arranged the direct cooperation between the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights through establishing a contact person which is also to improve the mechanisms of reporting and collaborating with the Europol.
The two officials also arranged the Europol’s expert visit to the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights in August.
