Podgorica, Montenegro (20 July 2012) – Turkey is determined to continue to support Montenegro, in particular by encouraging Turkish investors to invest in that country. It is also willing to provide assistance to Montenegro in advancing its security system, with particular emphasis on training programmes for police officers and reinforcement of regional cooperation in combating organised crime and terrorism, Turkish Ambassador Mehmet Niyazi Tanilir said at the meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Duško Marković earlier today.
The two countries have been developing strong political and economic partnership, and the bilateral cooperation needs to be improved in other fields as well, since these are two friendly countries committed to the stability and progress of the entire region, the two officials agreed.
DPM Marković thanked the Turkish Government and the people on their support in meeting Montenegro’s key foreign policy goals – EU and NATO membership. He pointed out that the opening of EU membership negotiations and the messages from the Chicago NATO Summit are a strong incentive for Montenegro to continue to pursue reforms and improve regional and international cooperation. The DPM underlined that, after Croatia, Montenegro becomes an extended arm of the European Union in the Western Balkan.
