Podgorica, Montenegro (7 February 2013) -- The twinning projects on the reform of the criminal execution system, supported by the German Government, will significantly improve the capacities for the full implementation of the policy in that area, with particular emphasis on the introduction and promotion of alternative sanctions, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Duško Marković and German Ambassador Pius Fischer agreed at a meeting earlier today.
The two officials underlined the importance of the Probation Department in the Montenegrin Justice Ministry, focusing on the need for further capacity building that will make its work more efficient and professional.
The meeting also discussed Montenegro’s EU accession policy, especially referring to the action plans for negotiation chapters 23 and 24, the action plans for strengthening independence, responsibility and reliability of the judiciary, and fight against corruption.
DPM Marković informed Ambassador Fisher about the analysis concerning the rationalisation of the court network that will be on the Government’s agenda soon, and the measures that will be undertaken in order to implement the recommendations from the analysis.
They also highlighted the importance of the constitutional amendments related to judiciary, as Montenegro’s priority area at both national and EU integration levels.
