Published on: Feb 15, 2016 1:10 AM Author: PR service

Podgorica has been a part of the global campaign ”Billion rises” today. The campaign  has been designed to support women, violence victims and it has been launched fifteen years ago by an American feminist, activist, playwright and novel writer Iv Ensler, who organized the action V-day.

The idea was developed when the United Nations announced devastating data according to which one out of three women on the Earth cannot avoid being raped or being physically abused. If we are familiar with the fact that seven billion people live on the Earth, that means that one billion is being exposed to violence.

Every year, on this very day, dancing all across the world, people protest against violence against women. Dance of support has the aim of punishing every kind of violence against women.

The dance is passing the message that everyone of us should feel and express the power of being a part of community who is fighting violence against women and encourage every victim to report violence.

To break the chain as the verses of the song that follows the campaign say.

Last year, on this day 210 countries in the world joined the campaign dancing. The whole planet rises against violence towards women and highlights this negative phenomenon.

Minister for Human and Minority Rights Suad Numanovic and Minister of Labour and Social Welfare Zorica Kovacevic on behalf of the Government and Ministries in charge were part of this event, permanent coordinator of UNDP in Montenegro Ms Fiona McCluney as well as many other respectable activists engaged in promoting human rights.
