Tivat-Kotor: the education of Roma as a priority for integration
The Strategy for social inclusion of Roma and Egyptians in Montenegro 2016-2020 is obligatory for all local government units inhabited by members of Roma and Egyptian community, said Sokolj Beganaj on behalf oof the Ministry for Human and Minority Rights in a campaign organized yesterday in the settlements on July 7th and Lovanja 1 in Tivat and the settlement Trojica in Kotor.
By adopting this strategic document, the Government has once again expressed its full commitment to the creation and implementation of policies for faster and completely social inclusion of Roma and Egyptians in Montenegro.
The campaign is being implemented in cooperation with the Police - Security Center Tivat and Kotor General Hospital and the NGO "Association of Egyptians" every year concerning the protection of domestic violence, violence against women and juvenile forced marriages among the Roma population.
It was evaluated that a very important part in the integration is the implementation of local action plans, which used to have a declarative character in the past, without concrete essential changes.
Within the framework of the training, the importance of the new strategic document of the Strategy for social inclusion of Roma and Egyptinas in Montenegro 2016-2020, which set out guidelines for achieving essential and permanent changes in the social-economic position of this community in Montenegro was being discussed.
In order to achieve the overall goal within each field, specific objectives are defined, and each one will be achieved by the proposed measures in the fields of: education, employment, healthcare, housing, legal status, social status and family protection. It was announced that all necessary effort will be invested through the multidisciplinary approach of all relevant institutions, with respect to the international standards, on the active involvement of the society of this community in Montenegrin society, as well as ist full socio-economic integration.
Within the campaign and education, the importance of education for Roma and Egyptian populations has been pointed out once again. It is a precondition for the inclusion in all aspects of social life in Montenegro.
Better education leads to in social trends, better opportunities to improve the poor economic state, and above all to raise human right awareness and the fight against the extremely negative phenomenon of violence against women and domsetic violence, and forced juvenile marriages.
