VII cycle training on the application of anti-discrimination legislation, behavior and practices started
Human rights are not something that is given, they belong to all of us by nature said Minister for Human and Minority Rights Mehmed Zenka in his addressing to this year's attendees training in the field of anti-discriminatory behavior and practices that started today in Przno.
He pointed out the growing attention towards the respect of basic human rights and freedoms of all our citizens on equal terms in the process of joining the European Union. In this regard, extremely negative phenomenon of discrimination, which directly threatens human dignity, is very important to be reduced to the lowest possible percentage.
From the identified reasons, the educational cycle in the field of anti-discriminatory behavior and practices is essential in everyday work and professionals, but also the general public because people usually do not recognize themselves as perpetrators of a severe discriminatory act. Therefore, there are forms of discrimination that remain overlooked, unrecognized, lost, but unfortunately present, said Zenka.
H.E. Mariz Davije head of the OSCE Mission to Montenegro said that discrimination remains a threat to peaceful coexistence and cohesion throughout the OSCE region.
In this regard, H.E. Davije expressed her belief that this workshop would strengthen further the capacities necessary for proper implementation of the legislation on prohibition of discrimination responding to this negative social phenomenon in various fields.
The first seminar / workshop will be held on the subject of mechanisms of legal protection from discrimination and sets the focus on the European and Montenegrin legal mechanism.
Since discrimination diminishes the concept of democracy to a large extent, the Ministry for Human and Minority Rights, in cooperation with the OSCE Mission in Montenegro, the seventh year in a row organizes cycles of seminars and workshops for all those who are bound to recognize discrimination and provide protection against same on any ground.
Lecturers are local and international experts / activists in the field of human rights and representatives most reputable non-governmental organizations, whose work has been recognized in the field of human rights and freedoms of vulnerable groups. This year, Goran Miletic Program Director of Civil Rights Defenders for Europe will work with students on the first day, while tomorrow's workshop would be held by PhD Ilija Vukcevic from the Institute for Legal Studies in Podgorica.
This year's cycle of education attendants are representatives of the state bodies and institutions, or contact the person in charge of the protection of the rights of vulnerable social groups in Montenegrin society.
