With regard to the incident situation in Nikšić related to the attack on three Libyan students, one of whom was physically brutally attacked, the Ministry for Human and Minority Rights reacts with the following public statement:

The Ministry strongly condemns any form of violation of fundamental human rights and freedoms.  These examples of inadequate behavior inevitably distort the efforts we all put together so that everyone in our society feels equal regardless of his/her diversity on any ground.

Montenegro is determined to be based on the principles of freedom, democracy and respect for all human rights and fundamental freedoms without discrimination. Its  full dedication to the fact that no one should suffer discrimination because of any personal characteristics Montenegro realizes through a  whole set of policies in the area of human and minority rights promotion and the fight against their violations.

All that has been done in the area of strengthening tolerance, accepting others, respecting diversity must not be declarative, moreover it should be the reality we live in and which we improve in order to strengthen equality and mutual respect all in the same way.

Multiethnic and multiconfessional Montenegro cannot allow such individual outbursts to break the coexistence that is being built and nurtured persistently. We must not allow individuals under the influence of alcohol to hurt the recognition of Montenegro when it comes to mutual tolerance and harmony of all religions and nations. Concerning this, we believe that the competent institutions will respond adequately to such and similar possible attacks.
