PhD Ivana Jelić: Vice-Presidents of the United Nations Committee on Human Rights
Professor at the University of Montenegro, PhD Ivana Jelić, has been unanimously elected for one of the Vice-Presidents of the United Nations Committee on Human Rights at the119th session of the Committee, that has been held this week in Geneva.
In 2014, Ivana Jelic was elected in New York as a member of this Committee, being the most significant contractual body for controlling the application of civil and political rights on a world-wide scale. At that time, for the first time, Montenegro received a representative in the highest expert body of the World Human Rights Organization.
In addition to mentioned, Jelić was a member of the Council of Europe's Main Human Rights Committee from 2008 to 2012 and a member of the Advisory Committee on National Minorities of the Council of Europe as an expert body for overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities of the Council, In the period from 2012 to 2016 and from 2014 and vice-president of this body.
Professor Jelić has been actively participating in harmonizing the domestic legal framework of Montenegro with European standards of human rights protection in previous years, with special emphasis on minority rights and protection against discrimination.
Professor Jelić contributes significantly to the realization of European and international standards in the area of gender equality, strengthening the equal opportunities policy as a member of the Gender Equality Council.
Based on her professional references and long-term cooperation of high quality, numerous published scientific and professional papers, domestic and international scholarships for awards and awards, and her international experience, Ministry of Human and Minority Rights is pleased to welcome Professor Ivane Jelić at this prestigious position in the UN Committee on Human Rights.
