The fact that Montenegro is a state that has the capacity to accept all its differences and strengthens the level of tolerance in its society, has been confirmed once again at today's fifth Montenegro Pride, held in Podgorica.

The position of LGBT people in Montenegro is not yet completely free from the full impact of social perception that their different sexual orientation is a violation of morality and social principles. There are still cases in which individuals, due to their actual or presumed sexual orientation and / or gender identity, are exposed to various forms of exclusion, violence and discrimination within their families, but also generally in society.

However, many concerted efforts have been made for the past years by the LGBT community. In Montenegro, the implementation of national policies has enabled the achievement of measurable results, in which civil society organizations dealing with the improvement of the position of the LGBT population as well as the support of international partners plays a major role. Montenegro has received praises from international addresses in this area, and the facts say that the achievements are visible and short time for which they were made which additionally speaks about the commitment to the access of all stakeholders in the society on this issue.

In a transitional society like ours, it is inevitable to have an realistic amount of misunderstanding about everything which seems different, but it appears that Montenegro has understood its social development in the true sense of the word and in the sign of support and tolerance, which has been demonstrated once again at today's Pride Parade.

The event was held under the slogan "Combat against violence" and it gathered a large number of representatives of state institutions, municipal services, international institutions, diplomats and non-governmental actors who advocate reducing discrimination against vulnerable groups as well as fighting all forms of violence.

The representatives of the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights took part in the event in a significant number, as they did in the previous years.

Montenegro Pride 2017 showed the image of a tolerant society, various profiles of people gathered in support of the realization of basic human rights and freedoms equally for all.
