The International Day of White Stick

Published on: Oct 14, 2017 5:36 PM Author: PR service

On the occasion of October 15th, the International Day of the White Stick, Ministry for Human and Minority Rights congratulates this day to persons with visual impairments, as well as their associations and organizations, hoping that in the forthcoming period they will encounter lesser difficulties in the environment in relation to their disability.

We also use this opportunity to remind once again of the obligation of the Law on the Prohibition of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities which stipulates that all public institutions are obliged to ensure unhindered movement and stay in their premises to persons with visual impairment in a way that they mark the premises with inscriptions on Braille and tactile tapes for the smooth movement of these persons.

Despite the results achieved on the improvement of the legislative framework that addresses the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities and the efforts made towards its implementation so far, the challenge in raising the awareness of society remains for opportunities to be made for the members of these marginalized groups in order to show themselves as equal members of society.

In this regard, the implementation of the Strategy for the Protection against Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities and Promotion of Equality will also play an important role in 2017-2021. which the Government adopted in December last year.
