Meeting Zenka-Vuksanović: The role of national councils in preserving the interculturalism and identity of minorities

The importance of institutional protection of the rights of minority people and other national minority groups in Montenegro was discussed today at the meeting held between Mehmed Zenka, Minister for Human and Minority Rights and Momčilo Vuksanović, President of the Serbian National Council.
The Minister noted that the goal of forming national councils is to strengthen the unification of all nationalities in Montenegro, as well as to nurture and protect the identity of their community. Zenka emphasized that the reform processes related to strengthening the rule of law included the area of ​​improvement of the rights and freedoms of minority peoples, and expressed satisfaction with the adoption of the Law on Amendments to the Law on Minority Rights and Freedoms in April this year.
By enhancing the existing solutions, the Law set the basic directions of the reform of the Minority Fund by focusing on the prevention of an objectively possible conflict of interest as well as the introduction of two-stage decision-making on projects funded by the  Fund. The Minister expressed his belief that, with the adopted by-laws regulating the organization and functioning of this institutional mechanism, the proposals of the project activities will be focused on what is the importance and the purpose of establishing such a mechanism.
President of the Serbian National Council Momčilo Vuksanović expressed his satisfaction with the working meeting with the Minister and noted that the dialogue and a sincere approach was at the heart of every good and successful cooperation.
He informed the Minister about the current challenges facing this national council and invited the Minister to visit the premises of the Serbian National Council in order to get acquainted with the work and activities of the Serbian National Council.
