Visit of participants in the project "Strengthening Youth Activism in the Prevention of Gender-Based Violence"

Representatives of the Ministry for Human and Minority Rights spoke with participants of the Project "Strengthening Youth Activism in the Prevention of Gender-Based Violence", which is implementing the SOS telephone for women and children victims of violence.
The aim of this project is to create a network of young activists ready for voluntary inclusion in the civil sector initiatives in the field of violence prevention, thus empowering young people to act in the fight against violence at all levels, creating mechanisms that can guarantee the building of positive practice.
The Head of the Gender Equality Department, Biljana Pejović, met the interviewees with the activities of the Ministry for Human and Minority Rights in the field of gender equality and explained the strong contribution in promoting the Convention on prevention and suppression of violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention) thematic sessions and participation in global campaigns.
Pejovic informed about all legal and strategic documents, as well as international standards for protection against gender discrimination.
She stressed that the Ministry for Human and Minority Rights plays an important role in the process of monitoring the implementation of gender equality policy and anti-discrimination and that in the forthcoming period they will support similar and similar projects aimed at eliminating discrimination against women and protecting human rights.
One of the activities of the Project, a training of volunteers that is designed to sensitize the participants on a gender basis and prepare them for often traumatic experiences with victims of violence. The training is attended by over twenty volunteers, employees, students from the central region of the country.
