Zenka and Dieng - Montenegro has been recognized in the Western Balkans as a country where human rights issues are high on the agenda of its policy

Minister for Human and Minority Rights Mehmed Zenka met today with the UN Under Secretary and Special Adviser to the UN Secretary General for the Prevention of Genocide, Adam Dieng.

Zenka emphasized that Montenegro  has been recognized in the Western Balkans as a country where human rights issues are high on the agenda of its policy and in that direction our country has achieved visible results.

He also emphasized that the Ministry for Human and Minority Rights, in order to prevent potential threats and hot spots of intolerance, intolerance, discrimination and disregard of diversity, continuously conducts training specifically designed for bodies and institutions in charge of preserving the values ​​guaranteed by the Constitution and other legal domestic and international regulations .

Minister Zenka said that, thanks to the positive experiences of the multivariate and multinational fund that exists in Montenegro for centuries, inter-ethnic and interfaith dialogue, understanding and sincere respect, are the basis for the fight against every form of extremism.

At the meeting, Adam Dienga pointed out that Montenegro has a leading role in the Balkans in the promotion of peace and security, given that it is the only country that has preserved the intergovernmental harmony and tolerance, despite its heterogeneity, and that there were no war conflicts, as is the case in some neighboring countries.

"Montenegro has received many recommendations in the direction of further strengthening of human rights. We are commendable with the results so far in the legislative and institutional framework. The General Report on the state of human rights, the UPR proved to be very positive, therefore Montenegro received further positive recommendations, especially the leadership position in the region when it comes to the human rights corps. Our Office will provide you with strong support in building the rule of law. "

He explained that although it is not the largest country in the region, our country is great in the field of respecting human rights and tolerance, because one country does not make land, but people and their works.

"Although there is no extremism and radicalism in Montenegro, we are aware of the increase in this phenomenon in some European countries, so we all have to be careful and take preventive measures against these phenomena," Dieng said.

In the end, Zenka announced that Montenegro will continue to further promote the policy of protecting human rights and tolerance, affirming global dialogue and promoting the strength of joint cooperation in the fight against all forms of discrimination and human rights violations, including the phenomenon of extremism and radicalism, which are a loud threat to the total democratic world.

The Minister praised the cooperation in the organization of a workshop that started today in Podgorica and is committed to building capacities and skills in the prevention of ectremism and radicalism.

Interlocutors agreed that the topic of the workshop covers a very important area, and that it is very important to learn from each other.
