The third and final round table in Podgorica was held today in the framework of the Public Debate Program on the draft text of the Law on the Life Partnership of the same sex.

The public hearing started with the interested public on May 14th and will last until June 25th.

Director Radošević Marović presented the text of the Draft Law on the Right to the Common Life of Persons of the same sex and all the rights and obligations that belong to them from that status. According to her, the largest part of this law refers to a number of rights and obligations that, for representatives of majority heterosexual populations, simply imply.

The Draft Law  proposes the term life partnership, but most of the space is dedicated to the legal effect of the Act, namely: to scale the maintenance, custody, property relations, tax law and liability, health insurance and care, social and child protection, inheritance rights, and a number of other rights and obligations arising from a common life.

Of course, she pointed out that by enabling the realization of these rights to persons of the same sex nothing will endanger or diminish the rights of others, nor will it in any way change or affect the exercise of the rights of other persons who are not members of the LGBTI population.

She expressed the belief that this Law will contribute to a higher degree of realization of the human rights of those of our citizens and citizens with same sexual orientation and that every person in Montenegro will enjoy the rights guaranteed by the Constitution, international regulations and domestic laws without discrimination.

Different opinions and attitudes were heard during the Public Debate and the task of the Working Group is to carefully consider all the remarks and suggestions in a way that all what was heard in public tribunes or delivered in writing was dealt with in a report from the Public Discussion. The Report from the Public Debate will be an integral part of the Draft Law to be sent to the Government of Montenegro, ie the Proposal that will be sent to the Assembly for further procedure.

The report will be publicly available.
