Representative of Montenegro - Chairs the CAHROM Committee of the Council of Europe
Representative of the Ministry for Human and Minority Rights Tatjana Anđelić, who is the representative of Montenegro in the Ad Hoc Committee of the Council of Europe on issues of Roma and Traveler -CAHROM, was elected Chairman of that Committee for 2018.
This is the first time that a representative of Montenegro has been elected as the Chairperson of the aforementioned Committee.
She chaired the 15th Plenary Meeting of CAHROM, held in Athens from 22 to 25 May 2018, hosted by the Government of the Republic of Greece and the competent Ministry of Labor, Social Security and Social Solidarity.
The meeting was attended by about 100 participants, out of which 37 representatives of the Council of Europe member states.
During the five-day work, the legal and strategic framework of Greece was presented in the area of protection and social inclusion of the Roma population in that country, as well as an interactive dialogue with representatives of the civil sector from that country.
The Special Secretary for Roma Inclusion from the Ministry of Labor, Social Security and Social Solidarity presented the National Strategic Plan for Roma Inclusion, as well as the projects that are currently in the process of strengthening their inclusion.
Representatives of international organizations presented development projects at the national and international level, and also CAHROM members presented the best practices in their countries.
The meeting was also attended by Lord Born Aberystwyth, Parliamentary Undersecretary of State and Minister of Religion of Great Britain, who presented the situation and disparities encountered by the Roma and Traveler communities in England.
Mr. Franz Salm Reiffersheidt, Ambassador of the Sovereign of the Maltese Order, spoke at the rally, which presented projects that are implemented in several countries, which are oriented towards the social inclusion of the Roma population.
During the meeting, four working groups were organized dealing with issues related to the fight against trafficking in human beings, with emphasis on children from the streets and prostitution, and the prevention of early / child / forced marriages, as approaching the justice of the Roma population with a focus on women.
Chaired by CAHROM, Tatjana Anđelić informed at the meeting about the activities related to the social inclusion of Roma and Egyptians in Montenegro, as well as how the funds from the EU pre-accession funds (IPA) are used for this purpose. She pointed out that the topic related to the issues of Roma and Egyptians is part of the negotiating chapter 23 of the Judiciary and the basic first and social policy and employment. She stressed that Montenegro is committed to implementing the policy of protecting human and minority rights in line with the legislative and strategic framework, as well as with international standards in that area.
