Projects such as the Encyclopedia of Montenegro will one day represent a relic of our national identity, a glorification of the time and people who have contributed to the development of today's modern and European Montenegro, Prime Minister Duško Marković said during the Prime Minister's Questions session, answering the question from Mićo Orlandić from the Social Democrats of Montenegro.
The Prime Minister reflected on the history of the Encyclopedia project, starting from 1969 within the then Lexicographic Institute, which issued the capital edition "Luča", then the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts (CANU) that took over the competence and adopted the concept of the future three-volume Encyclopedia in 1997, and Azbučnik (Glossary)in 1998, as well as the contribution of the Doclean Academy of Sciences and Arts on the creation of a single bilingual Montenegrin Encyclopedia in the period from 2001 to 2005.
PM Marković reminded that the Law on the Montenegrin Academy of Science and Art of 2012 stipulates that the Academy "prepares the Encyclopedia of Montenegro and other national encyclopedias in the field of science and art", and that the Working Group that drafted the text of the new concept of the Encyclopedia of Montenegro, which was adopted on 13 March 2015. The Lexicographic Center of the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts and the Institute for Language and Literature "Petar II Petrović Njegoš" in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture, this year started the work on three projects: Dictionary of diplomacy of Montenegro, Dictionary of Artists of Montenegro and Botanical dictionary of Montenegro.
According to the established dynamics, the drafting of the index of all three dictionaries is ongoing and they should be prepared by 1 October of the current year, and it is expected that the writing of articles and the lexicographic editing of scientific material will be completed by 2020. The work on the dictionaries is being prepared and it precedes the drafting of the Encyclopedia of Montenegro, which will provide the conditions to finalise this work which is very important for the history, culture and tradition of Montenegro, the Prime Minister noted.
Answering the question on the financing of the project, the Prime Minister said that it is not possible to accurately determine how much funds were spent in total because a part is funded from several sources, and the money has been allocated in different currencies for almost three decades.
The amount is not crucial now, but our determination to bring the work to an end, PM Marković emphasised.
I assure you that the Government of Montenegro, as I said, will support the drafting of single dictionaries and continue to support the Montenegrin Academy of Science and Art in order to ensure continuity and success in this important state business. We have fantastic cooperation with the Montenegrin Academy of Science and Art on this and other issues and this is an example of good cooperation between the Government and the institutions that cherish and strengthen the state and its national identity, the Prime Minister added.
