Zenka:Improving the position of Roma in the field of education and employment needs a systematic approach

On the occasion of the International Day of Roma Minister for Human and Minority Rights Mehmed Zenka reconfirmed the readiness of the Government of Montenegro to fully include Roma and Egyptian population in Montenegrin society.

At the public debate organized by the Montenegrin Parliamental Committee for Human Rights and Freedoms on the International Day of Roma Minister pointed out that public institutions, civil sector and all responsible actors of the social scene need to act in order to minor prejudices towards Roma population but in order to improve their social position, too.

Even we witnessed a progress in this area in the past few years, Roma community in Montenegro still faces numerous obstacles regarding their fundamental human rights, said Minister Mehmed Zenka.

He pointed out that it is necessary to act efficiently and systematically in order to improve the position of Roma in the field of employment, housing, health care, education and all different kinds of inclusion into social, cultural and political environment.

Minister Zenka spoke about education and improving economic position of Roma community as the most significant for overall development of this population. Our strategic documents in this field aim at improving social and economic position of Roma community, Zenka said. Action plan for 2019 forsees 77 measurements for implementing the Strategy for Social Inclusion of Roma and Egyptians in Montenegro 2016-2020.
