The quality of life of LGBTI persons continues to improve through a new strategic document

Safety and equality in exercising the rights of all citizens is a key priority of the Government of Montenegro. In this context, the exercising and protection of the rights of LGBTI persons is at the top of its agenda regarding human rights. In this regard, the Government of Montenegro at its today session adopted the second national document in the field of improving the quality of life of LGBTI persons in Montenegro 2019-2023 and the following Action Plan for 2019.
 
The Strategy is an expression of the continuity of the Montenegrin Government's policy and its determination to reduce the social exclusion of LGBTI persons in Montenegrin society and discrimination to the lowest possible degree and to improve the quality of their lives. The implementation of its measures will be a result of joint efforts of the Government of Montenegro, civil society organizations and numerous international partners. Its implementation will further strengthen the principles of freedom, democracy, the rule of law and respect for human rights and freedoms of LGBTI persons.
 
This document represents a response to the perceived challenge of full social acceptance of LGBTI persons and further strengthening of social perception of the importance of respecting human rights and freedoms of all our citizens.

The Strategy is based on the reports and recommendations of numerous international bodies, suggested improvements in the policy of protecting LGBTI persons, especially with regard to the implementation of laws on the protection of their rights and freedoms, as well as from the aspect of their better inclusion in different spheres of social life.

The funds needed for the implementation of the measures in the five-year Strategy will be provided in the State budget of Montenegro.
