The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has contracted with Checchi and Company Consulting, Inc (Checchi) to implement the Montenegro Judicial System Reform Project. Implementation of the three year Project began in late July, 2003. The Project has two components: Support for the Legal Reform Process, and Improvement of Court Operations. Within these two components, the Project will address methods of strengthening court operations and caseload management, public access, services and information. The Project will cooperate with the Supreme Court of Montenegro, and several ministries, with special focus on the Ministry of Justice, the judicial Training Center and other legal institutions and individuals that participate in legal/judicial reform. The Project will provide a limited amount of commodities support and legal information technology, in addition to technical assistance and expertise on a number of topics, including: the analysis of laws and draft legislation, assessments of court financing and facilities. Among the Project’s objectives are support for the new administrative office for the court system and for the new appellate and administrative courts.
