Minister of Foreign Affairs Đorđe Radulović attends at meeting of NATO foreign ministers, holding on 23rd and 24th of March, in Aliance seat in Brussels

During first day of the meeting, ministers considered important topics for Euro-Athlantic area security, with emphasis on Alliance close neighborhood challenges, as well on area of Middle East and North Africa. It has been stated that terrorism represents particular challenge in region, allies confirmed importance of joined action in confronting with this threat. Meeting was the opportunity to discuss about current topics in regard to Afghanistan. On this occasion was confirmed the full support of Alliance to the peaceful settlement of the conflict and continuation of peace negotiations between Government of Afghanistan and Taliban’s, which represents the optimal way towards long-term and sustainable stability in the state. The importance of consultations and coordination between allies on this matter was also highlighted.

Minister Radulović confirmed orientation of Montenegro to contribute to the NATO through engagement in missions, operations and contribution to the trust funds for building the partnership defense capacities.  Speaking about Afghanistan, Minister Radulović pointed out that Montenegro strongly supports negotiations on reconciliation with the Taliban, the importance of consultations with allies, and that Montenegro will continue to contribute to the development and strengthening of the country's national defense capacities.

For the two foreign ministers, today's meeting was an opportunity to continue talks on the "NATO 2030" process, which should make this organization stronger and better prepared for future challenges, just before the Summit. In this context, the ministers stressed the importance of strengthening the political unity of the Alliance, improving collective defense, including its adaptation to a wide range of security challenges of the modern age, in which it is crucial to improve cooperation with strategic partners. Minister Radulović explained that Montenegro welcomes the process that will enable NATO to continue to be a politically strong organization that takes a global approach in relation to the current challenges.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Minister Radulović had brief bilateral meetings with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Luigi di Maio, German Foreign Minister Heiko Mass, Dutch Foreign Minister Stef Blok and Slovak Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Ivan Korčok.
