Opening of the Mateševo - Kolašin road
Today, Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, along with Ministers Filip Radulović and Novica Vuković, officially opened the reconstructed Mateševo - Kolašin road.
The length of the route is approximately 8.5 km, and the total value of the project is €6.1 million (excluding VAT).
Despite significant challenges encountered during construction, we are pleased to announce the opening of the Mateševo - Kolašin road. This road is not only crucial for improving connectivity between Kolašin and Podgorica, reducing the travel time to just around 40 minutes, but it is also of paramount importance for safety reasons. Moreover, it serves as a stimulus for the development of tourism potentials in the region, stated Prime Minister Spajić during the opening ceremony.
Nearly half of the route underwent road surface replacement to meet the demands of traffic loads. Most of the route also saw improvements to the open drainage system, and specific measures, such as the application of the "Greenax" protective net, were implemented for slope protection, a first in Montenegro.
The reconstruction also included the installation of traffic signaling along the entire section. The project commenced on 20 April 2023, with an 8-month completion deadline.
The project involved the restoration of existing slopes, replacement of the road surface, and improvement of drainage systems, addressing a significant concern from the previous period of use.
During the construction, it was determined that certain solutions outlined in the project documentation, particularly regarding slope protection, could not be implemented due to worsened slope conditions caused by severe weather conditions. This necessitated the construction of massive retaining walls extending approximately 1 km.
The opening ceremony was attended by the directors of the Traffic Administration and Montenput, Radomir Vuksanović and Milan Ljiljanić.
