Spajić meets with German Special Representative for the Countries of the Western Balkans
During a meeting between Prime Minister Milojko Spajić and Manuel Sarrazin, German Federal Government Special Representative for the Countries of the Western Balkans, it was emphasised that absolute dedication to combating organised crime and corruption is crucial for Montenegro's path to the European Union.
The Government has demonstrated that the EU accession process is vital and a top priority for Montenegro, as significant progress has been made in a short period, particularly in Chapters 23 and 24, which had long hindered the negotiation process.
Fulfilling the requirements related to the rule of law and judiciary must remain a focal point even when Montenegro becomes a full EU member, especially now with the desire to obtain IBAR by the end of Belgian presidency of the Council of the European Union. Prime Minister Spajić emphasised the need for everyone to remain focused to achieve this goal.
If we obtain IBAR in June, it will send a strong signal to everyone, not just Montenegro. A positive sign for the Western Balkan countries and other EU candidates. It would be a signal to our administration, which has been waiting for such progress in the accession process for years. This is crucial for retaining our top personnel, emphasised the Prime Minister.
Sarrazin stressed that good results are the best way to accelerate the EU agenda, and Montenegro has full support from Germany. However, obtaining IBAR is not yet a done deal.
The significance of the Berlin Process in strengthening regional cooperation and connecting Western Balkan countries with the EU on the path to integration was highlighted, along with the potential to demonstrate the benefits of good cooperation through various initiatives.
Additionally, discussions included Prime Minister Spajić's upcoming visit to Berlin, where he will meet with Chancellor Olaf Scholz on 29 April.
