"The Ministry of the Interior is strongly committed to improving the transparency in the implementation of voter register control. Guided by this, I proposed the introduction of a new mechanism that would significantly improve the control of the voter register and guide us towards a key goal - which is to strengthen the trust in institutions and the integrity of the electoral process. Trust means openness, transparency and better cooperation. With this intention, I formed an Expert Team that will control the accuracy and up-to-datedness of the voter register, as well as of the source registers from which the voter register is generated, which includes, according to the previously published Public Invitation, laso the representatives of the civil sector – the “Center for Democratic Transition” and the “Center for Monitoring and Research", said the Minister of the Interior Mevludin Nuhodžić at today's meeting with the representatives of non-governmental organizations dealing with the election process. On this occasion, application solutions were presented that provide insight into the forming of the voter register.
The Minister reminded that there are numerous mechanisms of control and insight into the voter register, i.e. that the Ministry of the Interior is obliged to provide insight into the voter register to a municipal election commission for the municipal voter register, a parliamentary party, a submitter of the confirmed electoral list, and a non-governmental organization authorized by the competent authority for monitoring the elections, at their request, within 48 hours from the day of receipt of the request, as well as into the changes that have been made in it. He also added that the Ministry of the Interior has a civil AFIS system for deduplication of fingerprints and devices for electronic voter identification.
"In a society based on the rule of law, for which I believe we all stand for, both the government and the opposition and the civil sector and the media, have the common task of increasing the confidence in the elections. The Expert Team expresses openness and readiness to communicate with citizens, political parties, authorized non-governmental organizations and accredited representatives of international observation missions, in order to remove possible doubts regarding the regularity of the voter register," said Interior Minister Mevludin Nuhodžić.
Dragan Koprivica (Center for Democratic Transition - CDT), Zlatko Vujović (Center for Monitoring and Research - CEMI), Danilo Papović (Civic Alliance - GA) and Milena Bešić (Center for Democracy and human rights - CEDEM) attended the meeting on behalf of the civil sector.
