Abazović and Escobar discuss regional security issues, the Law on the President and the need to unblock the Constitutional Court
Prime Minister Dritan Abazović met US Special Envoy for the Western Balkans Gabriel Escobar.
Abazović and Escobar discussed current domestic, regional and global issues and agreed that the two countries have excellent relations, based on a common system of values, partnership interests and alliance within NATO.
Discussing domestic political issues, Mr. Escobar expressed concern about the consequences of the amendments to the Law on the President, which were adopted against the clear recommendation of the Venice Commission. The two officials agreed that the priority in the coming period should be to reach a consensus on the appointment of all four judges of the Constitutional Court, as a basic precondition for resolving the political crisis.
Prime Minister Abazović pointed out that the politicians who are still living in the 1990s by destabilizing political situation do not want to give a chance to the affirmation of progressive and pro-European politics and Montenegro's faster path to the EU membership.
Speaking about the Government's results in the previous period, Prime Minister Abazović emphasised his satisfaction with the achievements in the field of economy, social policy, the fight against crime and corruption, as well as energy, especially in the context of the global energy crisis.
We remain a committed partner that responsibly approaches geopolitical challenges, stressed Abazović, stating that Montenegro, within its capacities, made a significant contribution to help Ukraine. He noted that Montenegro plans to allocate 11 percent of funds from the military budget to Ukraine.
During the constructive conversation, Special Envoy Escobar pointed out that it is very important for Montenegro to maintain a leadership position in the EU integration process and that it should be committed to unblocking institutions.
The US remains fully prepared to help its traditional partner, Escobar emphasised.
