Abazović and Radulović meet with Sherman: Montenegro has support for further reforms
Deputy Prime Minister Dritan Abazović and Minister of Foreign Affairs Đorđe Radulović met today with US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman and Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Karen Donfried.
DPM Abazović expressed satisfaction with the first official Montenegrin visit to the State Department since the Covid crisis, stating that the United States is the most important strategic ally and friendly country with which Montenegro shares the Euro-Atlantic values. Abazović stressed the importance of the State Department's support for Montenegro on its European path, reforms in Chapters 23 and 24 and the fight against corruption.
Minister Radulović pointed out that the Government of Montenegro wants to continue implementing reforms and that it is important to set institutional agreements to enhance cooperation in the field of economy and attract investment in our country.
US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman pointed out that the United States sees Montenegro as a respected ally of the United States and NATO, and that our country will have support for even stronger reforms that will accelerate Montenegro's European path.
Karen Donfried praised the results that Montenegro has achieved in the fight against organised crime and corruption, especially the historic seizure of 1.4 tons of cocaine and the suppression of cigarette smuggling through the Port of Bar.
US Deputy Assistant Secretary overseeing policy towards the countries of the Western Balkans Gabriel Escobar also attended the meeting.
