Abazović meets IMF Managing Director: Montenegro can count on IMF support
Prime Minister Dritan Abazović met with Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Kristalina Georgieva. The meeting noted that Montenegro and the IMF continue their good cooperation.
Abazović emphasised that Montenegro is determined to make progress on its European path, adding that the Russian Federation's aggression against Ukraine is an additional motive.
The goal of the Government I lead is, in the context of the global health and geopolitical crisis, to launch a strong and concrete investment process aimed at real diversification of the economy and create a favourable investment environment, said Prime Minister Abazović.
Abazović stressed that the Government's intention is to improve the business environment, especially with healthy economic projects based on sustainable development and "green" policy, and to develop certain sectors more strongly, primarily energy.
Georgieva pointed out the IMF's readiness to provide support to Montenegro in overcoming the challenges it is facing.
Montenegro can always count on the IMF in an uncertain economic environment, Georgieva said.
Abazović and Georgieva discussed the Mission's Report for Montenegro adopted by the IMF Executive Board, the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the Montenegrin economy and economic reforms.
Furthermore, the two officials discussed the creation of a new financial system for international payments based on Central Bank Digital Currency, which would give Montenegro some independence in terms of faster and easier international payment.
Prime Minister Dritan Abazović is paying a three-day visit to Switzerland, where he is participating in the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting.
