Belgium supports political dialogue and Government's commitment to fight corruption and crime

Prime Minister Dritan Abazović met today with non-resident Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Montenegro Koenraad Adam.

Montenegro is committed to the key principles of foreign policy - European integration, NATO and regional cooperation. The Government is determined to persevere in reform activities, in order to complete the process of accession negotiations and become the first next member of the EU, said the Prime Minister.

The Kingdom of Belgium fully supports European integration, political dialogue and commitment of the Government of Montenegro to the rule of law and the fight against corruption and organised crime, said Ambassador Adam.

Prime Minister Abazović said that Montenegro and the Kingdom of Belgium have traditionally good relations and emphasised that we owe special gratitude to Belgium for its continuous support in achieving Montenegro's foreign policy goals.

Montenegro is aware that the rule of law plays a key role in the reform progress, so one of the priorities of this Government is to fulfill the interim benchmarks for Chapters 23 and 24 as soon as possible, said PM Abazović.

The Prime Minister pointed out that Montenegro continues to pursue a good neighbor policy, to be the backbone of regional cooperation in the Western Balkans and an example to its neighbours towards a common European future through its commitment to the negotiation process.

The officials agreed that the two countries have excellent bilateral relations, characterised by continuous political dialogue and cooperation in many areas, especially high-level cooperation and partnership within the global security system such as NATO. Discussing Russia's aggression against Ukraine, Prime Minister Abazović and Ambassador Adam agreed that it is necessary to show unity, solidarity and send financial and humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
