DPM Ivanović meets with EEAS Secretary-General Belén Martínez Carbonell
Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović met with Secretary-General of the European External Action Service (EEAS) Belén Martínez Carbonell.
Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović extended his congratulations on the appointment of the new Secretary-General of the EEAS. He reaffirmed Montenegro’s strong commitment to fulfilling its obligations within the negotiation process, emphasizing that the country has the energy and enthusiasm to become the next EU member by 2028. He also expressed confidence that, based on the significant progress achieved over the past year, Montenegro will continue implementing the necessary reforms on its path to EU accession.
Secretary-General Belén Martínez Carbonell stated that the enlargement policy is of great importance both for the new EEAS administration and for the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas. She highlighted that the EEAS highly values Montenegro’s full alignment with the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy and its role as a reliable NATO ally.
The two officials discussed the political situation in Montenegro and the country’s upcoming activities related to the closing of negotiation chapters. Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović expressed confidence that the EU will continue providing the necessary support for Montenegro to become the 28th member of the Union.
