First Sectoral Collective Agreement signed for seafarers on international shipping vessels
Today, for the first time, a sectoral collective agreement for seafarers on international shipping vessels was signed at the Ministry of Capital Investments.
It is my pleasure and a special honor to, on behalf of the Government of Montenegro and the Ministry I lead, participate in the signing of the Sectoral Collective Agreement for seafarers on international shipping vessels, stated Ervin Ibrahimović, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Capital Investments. He further added that through this agreement, the Government of Montenegro, the Montenegrin Employers Federation, and the Independent Union of Workers in Maritime Shipping Trade and Transport of Montenegro regulate certain rights and obligations of seafarers in accordance with the Labor Law and the General Collective Agreement, as well as the mutual rights and obligations of the contracting parties.
It is worth noting that the conclusion of this sectoral agreement was identified as a necessity in the Development Strategy of the Maritime Economy for the period 2020-2030, all aimed at improving the labor rights status of Montenegrin seafarers.
I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to all those who participated in this very important process and, with their dedication and responsible attitude, contributed to the satisfaction of all contracting parties in officially concluding this Sectoral Collective Agreement. As the responsible minister, I expect that shipping companies will ensure the full implementation of the Agreement's provisions in the best possible way, and in this way, we will collectively contribute to improving the labor rights status of our seafarers, concluded Ibrahimović.
