The Committee for Human Rights and Freedoms organised a session of the Romani Parliament in cooperation with the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights and the Ombudsman of Montenegro, under the auspices of the President of the Parliament of Montenegro.

The first session of the Romani Parliament was organised on the occasion of 8 April – International Romani Day.

Today's event is a great success for Montenegro, but also for all of us who are committed to improving the position of the Roma and Egyptian communities, said Minister of Human and Minority Rights Fatmir Gjeka.

In his address, he said that on 8 April, we celebrate Roma culture, history and language, but we do not forget to highlight all those problems that these communities continue to face.

According to the latest research, these communities still remain the most vulnerable social groups in Montenegro, although significant efforts have been made in recent years to facilitate their access to educational, health and social programmes and services, Gjeka said.

Minister Gjeka stated that it is the obligation of all of us to improve quality of life for every citizen and enable the Roma and Egyptian communities to nurture their culture, use their own language, and practice their customs.
