Italy-Montenegro interconnection is crucial for energy integration of Balkans into the EU
Minister of Foreign Affairs Đorđe Radulović met with representatives of Terna, Head of Major Projects and International Development for the Terna Group and Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of CGES Giacomo Donnini and Member of the Board of Directors of CGES Guido Guida in Rome.
Since the company Terna is implementing a strategic project - submarine power cable, the meeting was an opportunity to discuss further modalities of cooperation.
Minister Radulović said that the Italy-Montenegro interconnection is the result of good bilateral cooperation in the field of energy and testifies to the strategic and technological importance of infrastructure.
Recalling that the European Commission has declared it a project of general interest, he said that it represents a crucial hub for the energy integration of the entire Balkan region into the EU.
During the meeting, both sides pointed out that the interconnection favors the development and exploitation of energy potential from renewable energy sources, and that it contributes to the growth of various initiatives in Montenegro and the entire region, as well as strengthening regional interconnections.
Discussing the potential for further cooperation, Minister Radulović pointed out the request to the Government of Italy and Terna regarding the strategic support of this company in managing the energy transition of Montenegro, which will especially refer to planning and strengthening the resistance of the system and its technological leap.
The topic of the meeting was also the dynamics and technical conditions for laying the second cable. The interlocutors stated that shortening the deadlines would significantly accelerate proactivity and put the focus on the implementation of interconnections of other regional actors.
