Montenegro's development potential is immense, and the European Union is eager to assist in harnessing these resources to foster development and accelerate the attainment of European standards. This was the key message from today's meeting between Prime Minister Milojko Spajić and Director-General of the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations Gert Jan Koopman.

On the first day of his visit to Montenegro, Director-General Koopman led a delegation from the European Commission in discussions with representatives of the Government of Montenegro. The talks focused on models to accelerate innovation and attract foreign investments that would boost Montenegro's economic development.

In this context, the parties agreed that the focus of their joint activities in the coming period should be on the sectors of transportation, renewable energy, IT, and agriculture, with a particular emphasis on attracting new European investors to these areas.

We need to capitalize on all of Montenegro's advantages and swiftly develop a more efficient system for attracting foreign investments. Montenegro is a future member of the European Union. We aim to secure several hundred million euros of investment in your country, and this must be our common focus, stated Director-General Koopman.

Prime Minister Milojko Spajić presented the ongoing reform processes and informed the meeting participants about the details of the Fiscal Strategy, which will make Montenegro more competitive and a more desirable investment destination.

We have a clear plan and we want to see tangible results. With the European Union as our most important partner, our success is guaranteed, Spajić emphasised.

The meeting also addressed the challenges facing Montenegro and underscored the need for stronger connections between the private and public sectors to strengthen institutional support for the economy and overall development.

It was agreed during the meeting to organise a joint Montenegro-European Union Investment Conference in 2025.

The discussions between the European Commission delegation and the Government of Montenegro are scheduled to continue tomorrow in Budva.
