Minister Ibrahimović at NATO Ministerial Meeting: Montenegro a reliable ally, strengthening defense capabilities a priority

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, Mr. Ervin Ibrahimović, participated in the NATO Foreign Ministers' meeting in Brussels, where key Alliance issues were discussed in anticipation of the upcoming Summit in The Hague.

The focus of the discussions was on strengthening Euro-Atlantic solidarity and unity, with a particular emphasis on increasing defense spending for deterrence and defense, as a key concept for preserving peace in Europe and North America over the past 76 years.

The situation in Ukraine was also addressed, and the allies reaffirmed their readiness to find a solution that would lead to a just and lasting peace, with long-term security guarantees from Europe and the USA.

In the context of global security challenges, discussions were held with partners from the Indo-Pacific region, and ways to deepen cooperation with the Southern Neighborhood were explored, which will be further strengthened by the opening of a NATO office in Amman.

Minister Ibrahimović emphasized Montenegro's strong commitment to common values and activities, and particularly highlighted the importance of preserving the security of the Western Balkans as a region of strategic importance to the Alliance.

"We are extremely proud that Montenegro will host the NATO Youth Summit at the end of April, which will be opened by Deputy Secretary General Radmila Šekerinska. This is another confirmation of our responsible membership and commitment to strengthening Montenegro's position in the Alliance, as well as implementing NATO policies," Ibrahimović stated.

During the previous two days in Brussels, Ibrahimović had a brief meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and spoke with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, as well as with colleagues, the heads of diplomacy of the United Kingdom David Lammy, Luxembourg Xavier Bettel, and Slovenia Tanja Fajon.
