Mitsotakis: Montenegro a bright spot in the Western Balkans, EU must acknowledge progress
Montenegro is a bright spot in the Western Balkans. The European Union must acknowledge your undeniable achievements and respond adequately to them. In a short period, you have accomplished significantly more than other countries in this process, stated Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis during a meeting with Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, who is paying a working visit to Greece.
During the meeting, where economic cooperation was one of the main topics, it was assessed that strengthening transportation connectivity is a mutual priority. It was emphasised that in this context, intensive efforts are needed.
The officials agreed that Montenegro has the potential to further establish itself as an investment destination, and in that regard, closer collaboration with existing investors, who are the best ambassadors in this respect, is necessary.
After emerging from the crisis, Greek entrepreneurs are even more interested in participating in international tenders and making direct investments in the Western Balkans, whose opportunities, as stated by the Prime Minister of Greece, they are well aware of.
Hence, a visit by the Greek Prime Minister to Montenegro with an economic delegation will be organised in the coming period to discuss potential investments and energize economic exchanges.
The Prime Minister of Montenegro provided Prime Minister Mitsotakis with an overview of the Government's reform efforts, highlighting that over the past six months, the situation has significantly shifted in favour of a certain European perspective for Montenegro.
We will seize the momentum to intensify negotiations and bring the accession process to its final stage, said the Prime Minister.
The two countries share common interests, and it is the right time to strengthen their ties to harness all potentials for joint development, especially in the areas of transportation, maritime affairs, tourism, and agriculture.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Filip Ivanović attended the meeting.
