Montenegro signs the 2019 Judgments Convention

Minister of Justice Marko Kovač signed, on behalf of Montenegro, the Convention of 2 July 2019 on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Judgments in Civil or Commercial Matters (2019 Judgments Convention).

At the ceremony, which took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, depositary of the HCCH Conventions, Minister Kovač was accompanied by Mr Branimir Janjević, Director General of the Directorate for International Judicial Cooperation (Ministry of Justice), and Mr Ljubomir Mišurović, Chargé d’affaires at the Embassy of Montenegro in The Hague.

The Centre for International Legal Cooperation, which currently administers a project on the Judgments Convention in the Western Balkans, was represented by Mr Eric Vincken, Deputy Director, and Ms Johanna Pisters, Project Manager.

The depository was represented by Mr Jules van Eijndhoven, Head of the Treaties Division, Mr Rieks Boekholt, Legal Officer at the Treaties Division, and Ms Hester van Ommeren, Policy Officer at the Europe Department, while the Permanent Bureau of the HCCH was represented by Dr Christophe Bernasconi, Secretary General, and Ms Melissa Ford, Secretary.

Montenegro has been a Member of the HCCH since 2007 and is currently a Contracting Party to 13 other HCCH Conventions.
